. Land banks are to be operated at local levels across the country. The Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives, Federal Affairs and General Administration has forwarded the process to operate the land bank with the objective of utilizing the unused and barren private land for productive sector.
Issuing a public notice, the Ministry has stated that the private land that is not in use can be used by the local governments for productive purposes as per the provisions of the Land Use Act, 2076 BS and Land Use Rules, 2079 (Third Amendment, 2082). According to the Ministry, the ‘Land Bank (Establishment and Operation) Procedure, 2083’ has been approved for the operation of the land bank.
As per the working procedure, a land bank will be established and operated at every local level.
The Ministry has already sent the necessary circular to all the local levels for the implementation of the Work Procedure.
Now, the local levels will collect details of barren, unused and unproduced private land within their area and initiate the process of bringing it to use through the land bank.
Provision shall be made for the use of his land for agriculture, animal husbandry, enterprise, commercial farming or other productive purposes for a certain period of time.
This is expected to increase the utilization of barren land on the one hand and help in agricultural production and local employment generation on the other.
The government has recently introduced the concept of land bank with the objective of managing land use, conserving arable land and increasing investment in productive sectors.
With the active participation of the local governments, the plan is to connect the unused private land scattered across the country to the production system.
