Kathmandu. With the appointment of new office-bearers to the Board of Directors of Nepal Airlines Regulations, there are signs of improvement. The corporation claims that good governance, professionalism and service delivery have improved.
The NOC had formed a seven-member board of directors on May 19, including five representatives from open competition and two from the ministry. Among them, Maheshwor Bhakta Shrestha, an aviation expert and experienced, was given the responsibility of executive chairman by the cabinet meeting on July 30. Shrestha, who is known as an experienced, subject matter expert and successful personality in the aviation sector of Nepal, retired from the post of director of the corporation in 2049 BS.
He has also served as the Director of the Marketing Department, Institutional Department and Business Promotion Department of the corporation.
Shrestha is the first Nepali to return home after completing higher studies in aviation from the University of Westminster, London.
He has also studied aviation in Canada.
In addition, he has received special studies and training in air service management, planning, and market promotion from reputed educational institutions in the United States and India. Shrestha said that the newly
appointed executive chairman Shrestha has set a target to make the corporation debt-free within three years. In the 15 days since assuming the chairmanship, the Board of Directors has met three times and the decisive meetings of other performances have also been held dozens of times.
He said that these
meetings were useful in setting a clear roadmap, plan and strategies for the improvement of the corporation.
The corporation has increased its income by about 32 percent in June this year compared to the previous year.
The company earned Rs 1.33 billion in June this year compared to Rs 1.57 billion in the corresponding period of the previous year.
According to the corporation, the total seat utilization percentage of the aircraft operated has also been higher this year than last year.
Last year, 75 percent of the seats were sold, while this year 85.4 percent of the total seats were used.
Archana Khadka, spokesperson of the corporation and director of the corporate department, said that in the last fiscal year, 294 flights of the corporation were operated and 49,460 people were served.
The corporation has already completed preparations to provide ground service for the regular flight service to Fly Dubai starting from Pokhara International Airport. Shrestha said that plans to increase income and reduce expenditure have also been implemented by over-mobilizing the resources and human resources of the rules.
‘My goal is to make the corporation efficient, frugal, transparent and professional by expanding the corporation’s services to Europe. I am fully dedicated to the plan of building a self-reliant organization that can be run with my own income by repaying the existing loans,” he said.
