Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The relations between Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) and Nepal Police are to be further strengthened on road safety, urban security and urban management. During the meeting between Acting Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Sunita Dangol and Inspector General of Police Dan Bahadur Karki, discussions were held on the present situation and necessity in road, urban security and urban management.
During the meeting, acting mayor Dangol said, “We want to collaborate with Nepal Police in road safety and traffic management, conservation of encroached public land and promotion of public use, management of unsystematic settlement, urban management and campaign to make the city free of road beggars.” The Metropolitan Police Force will be strengthened with the support of Nepal Police. This will bring about the change that citizens will feel. ’
On the occasion, IGP Karki said he was ready to provide necessary support to the metropolis. “The Kathmandu Valley Police Office will coordinate the activities of the metropolis. For this, we have assigned a focal person,” he said, adding, “We have expected support from the metropolis to develop a system where the human resources are less and the results are more by increasing citizen participation and use of technology.” ’
Issues including control of drug abuse, smoking and alcohol consumption in public places, parking management, traffic management, security of night bus and morning bus service and participation of Nepal Police in road service under the ‘Road Friendly Kathmandu Campaign’ were discussed in the meeting.
Chief Administrative Officer of the metropolis Saroj Guragain, officials of the metropolis and representatives including Ramji Adhikari, chairman of Manav Sewa Ashram, were present in the discussion.
