The proposed memorandum of understanding is a 14-point preliminary document that aims to immediately implement a ceasefire and start a 30-day dialogue process. During the meeting, discussions will be held on broader understandings.
Under the deal, Iran would temporarily halt uranium enrichment activities, in return for the United States lifting some sanctions and releasing billions of dollars of Iran’s holded assets. The two sides will also work towards reducing military tensions in the Strait of Hormuz. Many of the provisions in the report will depend on the outcome of the upcoming negotiations, making the process even more risky. It also warned that failure could lead to another military conflict or a prolonged period of uncertainty.
US President Donald Trump recently decided to reduce military activity in the Strait of Hormuz, according to US officials. The talks are being led by US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. They continue to communicate with Tehran directly and through third parties.
