Stock market capitalization reaches Rs 4.832 trillion

Kathmandu. The share market capitalization has reached Rs 4.832 trillion. According to the statistics made public by Nepal Rastra Bank, Nepal’s securities market has seen a significant expansion till mid-April 2082.

The share market capitalization had reached Rs 4.425 trillion in the previous year. According to the NRB, the ratio of market capitalization to GDP has increased from 71.38 percent to 73.23 percent. In the review period, the number of listed companies in the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) increased from 270 to 294. (then followed by 133 banks and financial institutions, insurance companies, 103 hydropower companies, 28 production and processing industries, 9 hotel companies, seven investment companies, four business entities and 10 other group companies.

The share of banks and financial institutions and insurance companies in the share market capitalization is the highest at 50.2 percent. It is followed by hydropower companies (17.8 percent), production and processing industries (8.8 percent), investment companies (7 percent), business entities (4.4 percent), hotels (3.3 percent) and other groups (8.5 percent).

As of mid-April 2018, the paid-up value of 9.48 billion units of shares listed in NEPSE stood at Rs 933.89 billion.

In the first nine months of the current fiscal year 2082/83, additional securities worth Rs 132.36 billion have been listed. This includes ordinary shares worth Rs 45.54 billion, bonus shares worth Rs 39.89 billion, right shares worth Rs 9.64 billion, mutual funds worth Rs 27.50 billion, debentures worth Rs 3.45 billion, FPOs worth Rs 971.7 million and other securities worth Rs 22.9 million.

Likewise, the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) has granted permission for the public issuance of shares worth Rs 41.53 billion during the review period. The board has approved the issuance of mutual funds worth Rs 27.23 billion, ordinary shares worth Rs 9.12 billion, right shares worth Rs 4.94 billion, debentures worth Rs 200 million and FPO worth Rs 50 million.
