Kathmandu. Lawmaker Suhang Nembang said Nepal’s tea sector is closely linked with country’s rural economy, employment opportunities and exports. Speaking at the meeting of the House of Representatives today, he said the tea farming that started from Ilam in 1920 BS has become an important economic base today.
“Tea which was started in Ila in 1920 BS has today become an important area associated with rural economy, employment, export, international identity,” he said. ’
According to him, the livelihood of more than 15,000 farmers and 60,000 workers is directly related to the tea industry. Tea worth Rs 4.59 billion was exported from Nepal in the fiscal year 2081/82 alone, he said.
