If the rent is collected at the rate of Rs 50,000 per month, the house rent will be 10 per cent, Rs 5,000 per month and Rs 60,000 per month. But the contract is 5,000, and the tax is 500, that is, a total of 6,000 in the year. Out of Rs 60,000, Rs 6,000 was paid, while the remaining Rs 54,000 was cheated. If we just look for the housemates who do this, then the state can collect crores of revenue every month.
Now the question arises, is it easy to find? It’s very easy. There are two ways to do this. One is to look at the amount in the account of the house owner to see how much the house has been rented. The fare paid by the company, the fare paid by the company, goes to the bank account. From there, track down and collect the rest of the tax. The other is to not allow renters to be paid in cash. Even so, various laws of the country do not allow you to spend a little more in cash. In the case of a house gift, a lot of tax can be collected in this way.
The state can collect billions in fines from tax evaders
It is the old mischief of the landlords who charge more rent, but pay less tax. According to the prevailing law, this is revenue evasion, a serious offense. Which law is attracted to such a situation? The tax officer can check whether the tax has been evaded or not. It can also collect interest and penalties for any tax evasion that has been evaded. Landlords have been evading tax for years by showing low house rent tax. In such a case, the tax evasion amount can be recovered from the housekeepers by collecting tax with penalty and interest. The state needs money now. Taxes have been increased in many places because of the need for money. But if the tax evasion of the house is reduced, then the system will also be in place, not only millions, but billions of rupees in taxes.
Who pays the house rent or the restoration of the house?
Nowadays, the house builders in the major cities of the country including Kathmandu are paying the house rent tax to the tenants, which is wrong. Because the income is from the house, it is the expense of the tenant. It’s not a tax on expenditure, it’s a tax on income. Therefore, the house rent tax should be paid by the housekeeper. But the state has not seen this mischief of home offerings, and now many tenants, especially the companies, are suffering. The tenants are directly affected by the fact that the tenants are asked to pay the tax themselves. Even so, many homeowners evade taxes, and on top of that, they pay taxes to the tenants, isn’t this the limit of irregularities?
