Kathmandu. The Ministry of Education and Sports has written to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) to initiate legal action against the students after it was found that suspicious documents and fake receipts were used in the study visa recommendation process. The Ministry of Education, in a letter to the Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday, said that serious doubts have been raised in the documents related to the recommendation of study visa for foreign students.

According to the Ministry, the recommendation for the study visa was made after receiving a letter from Kathmandu-based Valmiki Vidyapeeth on ‘Recommendation for Academic Study Visa’. However, after on-site inspection of the concerned educational institution, the ministry team said that although the letter issued in the name of the recommended student and the income receipt attached to it were genuine, serious discrepancies were found in the details related to the admission and study of the person mentioned in the letter.

During the monitoring, the ministry has concluded that the claim that the person was studying in the concerned educational institution as a foreign student could not be substantiated. According to the Ministry of Education, some documents and receipts submitted to the ministry are also suspicious and fake.

In the same context, the Ministry said that another letter received earlier in the name of the same university was also found to be fake. According to the ministry, the recommendation letter issued for the study visa has also been revoked as the credibility of the documents submitted in the preliminary investigation has been questioned.

In a letter sent to the Home Ministry, the Ministry has urged the government to carry out thorough investigation into the incident and take action as per the prevailing laws. It also pointed out the need for more coordination among the bodies concerned to prevent the misuse of the study visa recommendation process.

While recommending visa to foreign students for study in Nepal, the process related to admission, study and fee is carried out on the basis of official documents related to admission, study and fees issued by the concerned educational institution. The Department of Immigration has also made a provision to ensure that the student is actually involved in the study while recommending the study visa.
