Tourist arrivals rise by 19.5 per cent in June 2026 compared to last year

Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: A total of 91,363 foreign tourists visited Nepal in the month of June, 2026. According to the data released by the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), the number of tourists visiting Nepal via air route has increased by 19.5 percent in June as compared to the previous year.

This number was 76,425 in the same month last year. Similarly, the highest tourist activity before the Covid-19 pandemic was 74,883 in June 2019. On this basis, it increased by 22.01 percent in June this year.

The highest number of tourists visiting Nepal in June was 48,254 from the SAARC countries. This is 52.8 percent of the total arrivals. Among the major source markets, 41,809 tourists came from India alone. A total of 16,152 tourists from other Asian countries visited Nepal, which is 17.68 percent of the total arrival. Of them, 8,875 tourists arrived from China, 2,497 from Japan, 1,765 from South Korea and 984 from Thailand.

A total of 13,119 tourists from Europe have visited Nepal. Among the European countries, 3,266 tourists arrived from the United Kingdom, 1,892 from Germany and 1,267 from France. A total of 6,954 tourists from the United States of America visited Nepal, which is 7.61 percent of the total arrivals. Likewise, 5,237 tourists arrived from the United States of America, 1,298 from Canada and 219 from Brazil.

Similarly, 3,090 tourists have arrived in Nepal from the Oceania region. This is 56.35 percent over the previous year and 57.17 percent more than in 2019. A total of 2,694 tourists from Australia and 390 from New Zealand visited the region. A total of 674 tourists from Africa and 292 tourists from the Middle East visited Nepal.

NTB senior officer Santosh Bikram Thapa said the increase in tourist arrivals is a result of expansion of international air connectivity, tourism promotion campaign, and publicity of major source markets and image of Nepal as a safe and attractive destination.

The Board has said that it is preparing to carry out more promotional activities in India, China, America, Europe and other major source markets targeting the upcoming tourism season.
