Kathmandu. MYAGDI: Malika Rural Municipality of Myagdi district has honoured 25 couples for inter-caste marriages with the Dalit community. According to the rural municipality, 25 inter-caste couples were honoured with Rs 3,500 each at a programme organised under the targeted community programme on Sunday.
Rural municipality chair Beg Prasad Garbuja said the felicitation programme was organised to disseminate the message of ending discrimination by encouraging inter-caste marriages. “There is still a big wall of racial discrimination in our society. There is a need to end the caste discrimination that has persisted for centuries. We have tried to give a message to end caste-based discrimination by honouring senior citizens and youths who have inter-caste marriages with Dalits from all seven wards of the rural municipality. ‘
Chairperson Garbuja, vice-chair Laxmi Devi Gharti Pun, chief administrative officer Harishchandra Dhakal, ward chairpersons Udaya Bahadur Budhathoki and Path Bahadur Roka, executive members Pratikshya Rasaili, Dal Bahadur Khadkathoki and acting chair of Ward No. 1 Man Singh Sapkota felicitated the students.
Executive member Pratiksha Rasaili said that the rural municipality has organized such a programme for the first time.
