Minister Poudel inaugurates cold store in Manthali
Ramechhap.A cold store has been constructed in Manthali, the headquarters of Ramechhap district, with the objective of safely storing local agricultural products and helping farmers get a fair price.
The cold store was constructed with 70 percent cost sharing of the Bagmati Province government and 30 percent of Manthali Municipality. According to Devarshi Sapkota, Chief Administrative Officer of Manthali Municipality, the cold store was constructed in 2075 BS at a cost of Rs 53 million.
Similarly, an additional
Rs 50 lakh has been received from the Bagmati Province government for the construction of a cold store and a shelter, he said.
Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development of Bagmati Province Madhusudan Poudel inaugurated the newly
constructed cold store on Tuesday. Addressing the programme, Minister Poudel said that the Bagmati state government has come up with a special program targeting the farmers.
He said that Agriculture and Livestock Development Office will be established in all districts of the province from the next fiscal year.
Minister Poudel said that the province government would pay the interest charged by farmers on loans up to Rs 1 million.
He expressed the belief that the local farmers would get maximum benefit from the cold storage established in Manthali.
Stressing that cold storage should prove to be a boon for farmers, he stressed the need of its effective utilization.
Manthali Municipality Mayor Lav Shrestha said the cold store would be brought into operation by formulating necessary work procedure from a meeting of the municipal executive.
Stating that farmers have not received adequate quantity of chemical fertilizers, he urged the State government and Minister Poudel to take necessary initiatives for easy supply of chemical fertilizers.
Earlier, there was no cold storage in Ramechhap district and farmers were facing problems in securing their produce for a long time.
With the construction of cold storage in Manthali, farmers are expected to store their produce safely and sell it in the off-season market to get a good price.
The operation of the cold store is expected to contribute significantly to the marketing of agricultural products, price protection and increase farmers’ income.
