. Coordinator of Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ returned home today after completing his five-day political visit to Sri Lanka.
He was welcomed by party leaders and cadres at the Tribhuvan International Airport. Prachanda had arrived in Sri Lanka on July 15
. During the visit, he attended the ‘Hands of Asia’ International Conference organized by the International People’s Assembly as a keynote speaker and addressed both the opening and closing sessions. In the inaugural session, he presented his views on the changes seen in the global balance of power, challenges of imperialism and neoliberalism, experience of South Asian people’s movements and the political framework of socialism in the 21st century. In the concluding session, he called for collaboration among international progressive forces to further strengthen unity, peace, social justice and common struggle among Asian peoples.
During the visit, Prachanda also gave a special interview to the Global South Academic Forum.
During the interview, he had talked about Nepal’s peace process, political journey from people’s war to democratic republic, challenges of leftist movement in contemporary world politics and political line of socialist transformation in Nepal.
During his stay in Sri Lanka, Prachanda held high-level meetings with the major leftist political forces there.
During the meeting, President Bhandari held bilateral discussions with the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka and politburo members and exchanged views on the communist movement between Nepal and Sri Lanka, the democratic exercises, economic transformation and cooperation among the international progressive forces.
Similarly, in a separate meeting with Sri Lanka’s ruling Janata Bimukthi Peramuna General Secretary Tilvin Silva and the party’s Politburo, the two countries discussed in detail the communist movement of the two countries, the current political situation, the experience of leftist cooperation in South Asia, good governance, economic development and pro-people policies.
The meeting also agreed to further strengthen the political relations between the progressive forces of Nepal and Sri Lanka.
During the visit, coordinator Prachanda also met with leaders of political parties, social campaigners, researchers and progressive intellectuals from different countries.
The participants said that the discussions held during the conference have given new energy to cooperation and solidarity among progressive movements in the Asian region.
The visit to Sri Lanka has contributed to the expansion of political relations with leftist forces in South Asia and to present Nepal’s communist experience in the international forum. Prachanda left Sri Lanka this morning and arrived in Kathmandu at 11:5
5 am as per the schedule.
