. Nepali Congress leader Dr. KATHMANDU — Shekhar Koirala has said that national unity and democracy should be taken ahead side by side.
44th VP Speaking at a free health check-up and blood donation programme organized on the occasion of the Memorial Day here today, leader Koirala was of the view that only talking about democracy would not be possible until nationality was strengthened.
He said, “Nationalism is in a very weak state now. No matter how much we talk about democracy without strengthening nationalism, it will not help. Nationalism and democracy should go hand in hand. B. P. Koirala was a man of courage. Stating that the present situation of the country was very complex and sensitive, he pointed out the need of all political forces to be united keeping the national interest at the centre.
He said, “The situation in Nepal is very dire.
We stay, the soil remains the same, but the situation is going from bad to worse. If we are not able to move forward unitedly, what will happen to the Nepali Congress? But now our concern for the country has become much bigger than the Nepali Congress. ‘
He said that to free the country from the current crisis, B. P. Koirala stressed the need to adopt the policy of national unity and reconciliation that he had adopted after his return from India in 2033 BS.
He said, “The situation in the country is going through a very difficult and delicate situation.
If we can move ahead by contemplating the national unity and reconciliation that BP had said when he returned from India in 33 years to liberate it, then we can definitely reach our destination. He also spoke briefly about the institutional strengthening in the program and said that all should seriously think about how the organization could be further strengthened.
