Govt stresses on Ayurvedic tourism promotion, high-level discussion on Ayurveda reforms
Kathmandu |Minister for Health and Food Hygiene Nisha Mehta held a high-level discussion on reform, expansion of services and policy management in Ayurveda and alternative medicine sector on Wednesday.
During the discussion, special emphasis was laid on making Ayurveda services more effective, integrating them with the health system and developing Nepal as a destination for Ayurvedic tourism. During the discussion, Minister Mehta said that Ayurveda and alternative medicine are in the priority of the government and said that Nepal should be developed by linking it with health tourism as it is the origin of Ayurveda.
“The government is committed to providing necessary policy and institutional support for the development of this sector,” she said.
Gandaki Ayurveda Hospital in Pokhara, Ayurveda Research and Training Center in Kirtipur and National Ayurveda Panchakarma and Yoga Center in Budhanilkantha were also emphasized on developing Gandaki Ayurved Hospital in Pokhara as major centers of Ayurvedic health tourism.
The Ministry has stated that the Ministry will work towards establishing Nepal as an attractive destination for Ayurvedic health tourism by enhancing their infrastructure, services, expert human resources and capacity of international standard wellness service. Similarly, the participants also gave suggestions on including Ayurveda services in the health insurance program, organization and management, conducting surveys, strengthening institutional structure related to Ayurveda in the Ministry, developing value chain from herbal production to processing and drug production and strengthening the production system as per the GMP standard of the World Health Organization (WHO).
The meeting was attended by high officials of the Ministry, representatives of the Department of Ayurveda and Alternative Medicine, Singha Durbar Vaidhyakhana, Naradevi Ayurved Hospital, Ayurveda Research and Training Centre, Nepal Ayurveda Doctors Association and National Ayurveda Panchakarma and Yoga Center.
The Ministry has stated that the suggestions received from the discussion would be forwarded gradually through implementable plan and policy decisions.
