More than 88,000 foreign tourists visited Nepal in September, Chinese tourist arrivals increased by 114%
Kathmandu. More than 88,000 foreign tourists entered Nepal in September 2026. According to the data made public by the Nepal Tourism Board, a total of 88,248 international tourists visited Nepal via air route in September.
This number is 12.12 percent more than the same period last year (
2025). In September last year, 78,711 tourists visited Nepal. The largest share of tourists visiting Nepal is from neighboring India. A total of 17,425 tourists came from India, which is 19.75 percent of the total arrivals. Last year, 15,556 tourists came from India.
There has been a significant increase in arrivals from China, which is in second place. In September, 11,212 (12.71 percent) tourists arrived from China. Last year, only 5,237 Chinese tourists visited Nepal, which is an increase of more than 114 percent this year.
Similarly, the United States of America is in third place with 8,299 tourists (9.40 percent). Sri Lanka is in fourth place with 7,108 tourists and Australia with 4,842 tourists. Bangladesh has 3,964 tourists and the United Kingdom (UK) has 3,725 tourists. Regionally, South Asian (SAARC) countries received the highest number of 30,085 tourists (34.09 percent), which is 23.88 percent more than the last year. Arrivals from other Asian countries increased by 57.97 percent to 19,888. However, there has been a slight decline in the number of tourists from Europe, America and Oceania. 15,148 (8.73 percent decrease) from Europe, 10,107 (12.29 percent decrease) and 5,422 from Oceania (25.87 percent) came to Nepal.
