Sydney (Australia). Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has praised the contribution of the Nepali community to the social, economic and cultural development of Australia.

Addressing the Nepal Festival 2026 held at Tumbalong Park in Sydney’s Darling Harbour on Saturday, he recalled his meeting with the Prime Minister of Nepal, Balendra Shah (Balen). He talked about Nepal-Australia relations and praised the contribution of senior police officer of Nepali origin Prakash Bharti in Australia.

Premier of New South Wales Chris Minns, President of Australia-Nepal Parliamentary Friendship Group, MP Zhi Sun, Member of Parliament Michelle Rowland, President of NRNA Australia Santosh Kunwar, State Coordinator of NRNA New South Wales Usha Kiran Bariya Pokharel and other distinguished personalities, representatives of NRNA and Nepali community leaders were present in the Nepal Festival. The special guests who participated in the festival were welcomed with Nepali Dhaka caps and necklaces. The welcome was given with the symbol of the moon and the sun of the Nepali national flag, which reflected the Nepali culture, identity and hospitality tradition. The Nepal Festival, which started in 2006 from Sydney, has now evolved into a major cultural event of NRNA promoting Nepali art, culture, language and identity in Australia. In its two-decade journey, the festival has expanded to various cities of Australia and has become a common platform for cultural exchange and mutual relations between the Nepali community and the Australian society. This year, Nepali art and music has added special attraction to the festival.

Singers Anil Singh, Rachana Rimal and Sudin Pokhrel have performed in the festival.

The Nepal Festival 2026, which aims to showcase Nepali art, culture, language, music and identity among Australia’s multicultural society, has further highlighted the unity of the Nepali community, cultural pride and growing connection with the Australian society.
