Establishment of Chhayanath National Park Office in Mugu

Mugu. The office of Chhayanath National Park has been established at Pulu of Mugum Karmarong Rural Municipality-5 in Mugu. The park office has been established with the objective of promoting religious and tourism areas along with the conservation of forest, wildlife and biodiversity.
The process to establish Chhayanath National Park was initiated as per the decision of the Council of Ministers of the Government of Nepal on June 9, 2082.
The establishment of the national park was formalized after the Ministry of Forest and Environment published a notice in the gazette on October 9, 2082.
The office was set up at Pulu on November 9, 2008 to provide administrative services and to conduct conservation activities of the park. According to Bishnu Rokaya, chief and conservation officer of the park, there are 28 employees in the office as per the approved posts.
The area of Chhayanath National Park is 843 square kilometers and the buffer zone is 207 square kilometers. With the establishment of the park, priority will be given to the conservation of forests, wildlife and biodiversity, control of illegal smuggling of forest products and sustainable management of natural resources. Similarly, there is a plan to conserve religious and tourist places within the park, promote Chhayanath Dham and identify and develop tourist trekking routes.
The park aims to conduct conservation and tourism development programs with the participation of the local communities in the buffer zone. Preparations have also been made to prepare and implement a five-year plan related to the management of the park and buffer zone to systematize the use of forest products.
After the establishment of the
office, it is expected that the administrative services related to conservation will be available from the local level. It is believed that this will help in the conservation of the natural and religious heritage of Mugu and the development of tourism.
