Kathmandu. Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City Mayor Gopal Hamal has pledged to spend all the facilities he would get after becoming the mayor in the education and other social sectors. Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Mayor Hamal said that he would add Rs 500,000 to the salary in the next five years and spend Rs 4.4 million for the education of poor and meritorious students.
Hamal has said that he has received Rs 38,82,873 from service facilities in five fiscal years and the remaining amount will be increased to Rs 44 lakh by adding his personal amount.
Hamal has been distributing services and facilities in the areas of public education, establishing access to education for the poor, cow protection and management and social development.
In the fiscal year 2078/79, Mayor Hamal had received Rs 137,273 from the service and facilities. Of this, Rs 55,687 was provided for cow protection and Rs 81,586 was provided to Dakshinkali Basic Deaf Residential School.
In the fiscal year 2079/080, Mayor Hamal had distributed Rs 936,400 to Drishti Foundation, Manav Sewa Ashram, Aamako Maya Hostel, Disabled Association, Dakshinkali Deaf School and Panchodaya Secondary School. He donated clothes worth Rs 2,67,800 in the financial year.
According to the data released by Mayor Hamal on Friday, educational materials worth Rs 992,605 were distributed to the students in 2080/081.
In the current fiscal year, Mayor Hamal had received Rs 36,400 from government facilities. He said that the amount was spent on purchasing educational materials for 3,489 students of community schools.
“The students of the community schools in the rural areas are the first priority, I have been helping the students of the schools in the areas where there is no employment facility,” said Mayor Hamal, adding, “I have been doing this work on the suggestion of the teachers. ’
In the fiscal year 2081/82, Hamal had received Rs 9,36,400 from government service. He has distributed educational materials worth Rs 10 lakh. He said that he distributed educational materials to 7,475 students of 47 community schools with Rs 1 lakh and Rs 9 lakh from personal and service facilities.
Similarly, for the current fiscal year, Rs 38,82,863 will be provided as service facilities. He has so far spent Rs 23,90,887 on social works.
Currently, he has a savings of Rs 14,85,195. Mayor Hamal said that the amount would be spent in the current academic session. Hamal has said that he will spend Rs 44 lakh on social work by the current academic year. Mayor Hamal said that the distribution of additional educational materials would be completed by mid-July. He had said that he would not take government facilities and vehicles in the mayoral election.
