Kathmandu. Some time ago, there was a big controversy in the case of World Link’s theft of billions of revenue. So much so that the case of WorldLink dragged everyone from Attorney General Sabita Bhandari to the then Prime Minister Sushila Karki. After the new government came to power, there is a discussion about what will happen to the various cases of World Link, while the new government has also given a discount of 9 billion to the same World Link.
The context is the bumper facility given by the budget. Presenting the budget for the fiscal year 2083/84 BS, Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle has proposed to waive the penalty and interest charge on telecommunication service charges.
The Finance Act from the fiscal year 2076/77 BS had made it mandatory for the telecommunication service providers to pay 10 percent of the tariff taken from the customers while providing services including telephone, mobile and internet. But this fee was not paid by the service providers including WorldLink for the last 6 years.
According to the prevailing rules, you have to pay the amount collected from customers like us by the 25th of the next month. But WorldLink and others had not paid such fees for years.
After the new government came to power, World Link was lobbying that he would pay this fee but the fine should be waived. After the success of this lobbying, it has been decided that World Link will save only Rs 9 billion. The company did not pay such a amount in defiance of the previous government.
