Four-month-old baby killed, mother seriously injured in Dolakha landslide

Ramechhap. A four-month-old baby has died and a mother has been seriously injured in a landslide in Dolakha.

According to Police Inspector Santosh Kumar Khadka, Information Officer of District Police Office, Dolakha, the four-month-old Alina Thami died after a landslide occurred at Kalinchowk Rural Municipality-1 at around 9.00 pm last night.

His 19-year-old mother Sharmila Thami was seriously injured in the incident. According to the police, Sharmila was returning home in a Bolero vehicle with her four-month-old daughter Alina from Maiti at Suspa of Bhimeshwor Municipality-1.

The tourists were travelling on foot after the road was obstructed by a landslide at Kyanpol-Helekpathali area along the Sunkhani-Sangwa road section. According to the police, the mother and daughter were buried by a landslide that fell from above during the journey.

Immediately after the incident, locals rescued the mother and daughter and took them to the branch hospital of Badhulikhel Hospital in Dolakha. The four-month-old baby, Alina Thami, was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

Sharmila Thami, who was critically injured in the landslide, was referred to Kathmandu for further treatment after initial treatment, police said.

The risk of flood and landslide is increasing in hilly districts with incessant rainfall. The bodies concerned have urged the general public to adopt high alertness while moving on the risky roads and settlements and stay in safe places in case of possible risks.
