Devotees throng Pashupatinath on the occasion of Saun Sankranti

Kathmandu. KATHMANDU — A large number of devotees have thronged the Pashupatinath Temple premises since early this morning on the occasion of Shrawan Sankranti.

KATHMANDU: Thousands of devotees from various parts of the country including the Kathmandu Valley have reached Pashupatinath on Friday to pay homage to Lord Shiva. The number of devotees in the temple has increased as the month of July is considered to be the favorite month of Lord Shiva.

The Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT) has made necessary arrangements in the temple premises for the convenience and security of the devotees.

According to the solar month, there is a tradition of celebrating the 1st of July as Saun (Karkat) Sankranti.

There is a religious belief that bathing and donating on this day brings virtue. Especially, women adorn themselves with green bangles, bangles and dresses and worship Lord Shiva and pray for happiness, peace and good fortune.
