Kathmandu. The Department of Food Technology and Quality Control has established Fishtail Dairy Pvt. Ltd. in Pokhara Industrial Area. Ltd. The company has ordered the immediate recall of Nova-branded ice cream from the market after it was found unfit for human consumption.
The samples collected by the department during the market monitoring were found in the laboratory. According to the department, the samples of the ice cream collected as per the Food Hygiene and Quality Act, 2081 BS were found to contain Total Bacterial Count, Coliform Count and Enterobacteriaceae Count in it. These bacteria, which are considered harmful to human health, have been found in large quantities and the product has been deemed unfit for consumption.
Along with this, the Department has decided to export 1000 ml of fish milk produced by Fishtail Dairy as per the provision of Section 38 (2) of the Food Hygiene and Quality Act, 2081. The government has issued an order to immediately recall Nova brand ice cream from the market with the production date of 2082/04/19 (12 months for consumption period).
The Department has also issued strict directives to the manufacturers and sellers not to sell or distribute ice cream of the same batch as per sub-section (4) of the same Act. Action would be taken against those found violating the order issued by the Senior Food Investigation Officer.
