Kathmandu. The government has decided to stop the registration process of new vehicles. The government has banned the registration of new public vehicles across the country due to increasing air pollution, traffic jams and mismanagement of public transport.
The Department of Transport Management on Thursday sent a circular to the concerned ministries of all seven provinces and all local levels asking them to stop the registration of electric vehicles.
The Department has mentioned in the circular that there is difficulty in transportation due to lack of scientific management of public transport. The department has decided to stop the registration of public vehicles in view of the uncomfortable situation created by the rising price of fuel and excessive pressure of vehicles.
According to the department, the decision was taken in line with the sub-section (3) of Section 24 of the Motor Vehicles and Transport Management Act, 2049. According to the Act, the Department can issue an order to stop the registration of any type of vehicle for public interest due to environmental pollution, pressure of vehicles, condition of roads or any other reason.
The government has made it clear that this decision will be effective immediately until another notice is issued with the objective of scientific management of public vehicles. With this decision, no new public vehicles (including electric) will be registered across the country until further notice.
