KATHMANDU: The Industrial Area Management Limited (IAML) has issued an ultimatum to the industries, business establishments and offices operating in various industrial sectors across the country to clear their outstanding dues within seven days. Issuing a public notice on Monday, the central office of the company has made public the names of hundreds of industries in Patan, Balaju, Hetauda, Pokhara, Butwal, Nepalgunj, Bhaktapur, Rajbiraj (Gajendra Narayan Singh) and Birendranagar industrial estates.
The company has taken strict action after the industries have not paid huge amount of land and building rent, electricity tariff, water tariff and other service charges for use in the industrial zone for a long time. According to the data of the Industrial Area Management Limited and the Ministry of Industry, the highest arrears have been found in Balaju Industrial Area. Of these, 151 industries are yet to pay a total of Rs 43.98 crore. Similarly, 131 industries of Hetauda Industrial Corridor and 94 industries of Patan Industrial Corridor have outstanding dues of Rs 109 million.

In other sectors, 58 industries of Butwal are yet to collect Rs 45.77 million, 71 industries of Pokhara and 17 industries of Bhaktapur Rs 17.16 million. Nepalgunj has arrears of Rs 13.4 million, Gajendra Narayan Singh Industrial Area Rs 63.32 lakh and Birendranagar Rs 6.62 lakh.
The company issued a public notice and set a deadline of seven days after the industries were delaying to pay the tariff despite repeated letters and reminders. The company has said that it has been facing difficulties in building infrastructure, maintenance and providing services in the industrial area due to non-payment of arrears. The list of defaulters includes more than 600 firms ranging from reputed business houses to small industries.
If the company fails to clear all the outstanding dues within the stipulated seven days, it will initiate legal action as per the terms and conditions of the agreement. Under this process, action can be taken ranging from cutting off essential services such as land, building, electricity, water to the industry and terminating the agreement with the industry.
