Kathmandu. Minister for Home Affairs Sudan Gurung has said the government has completed all preparations to deal with the monsoon-induced disaster. Talking to media persons after a meeting of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) held to discuss on monsoon preparedness and response preparedness on Thursday, he said effective preparations have been made for disaster management based on the past experience.
He said that necessary instructions have been given to the security bodies to ensure the safety of the citizens during the disaster and various teams have been mobilized. Stating that the security and rescue of the people has been prioritized this time rather than the observation of the ministers, Minister Gurung said that the government has planned to mobilize resources including helicopter if necessary.
He said, “I have been working in this area for a long time, so the preparation is good.” Security agencies have also been deployed accordingly. Accordingly, we have given instructions to different teams. This time, instead of inspecting the minister, we are planning to deploy everything from helicopters to the security of the people. ’
He clarified that the policy has been adopted to move ahead by correcting the shortcomings seen by the erstwhile government while giving continuity to the positive works carried out by the previous government. The government aims to make institutional reforms and coordination in disaster management more effective, he said.
Stating that civil security was the main responsibility of the government, Home Minister Gurung said that the Home Ministry wanted to establish the Ministry of Home Affairs as a trustworthy institution for every citizen, especially women. The government is committed to the security and service of every citizen and the police organization is now working more effectively than before, he said.
“We are continuing the good works carried out by the previous government by making up for the shortcomings in them,” he said. We should think that the Ministry of Home Affairs is a mother for every girl. For every woman, we want to stand as our family. We work for the safety and service of every citizen and now the police are working more effectively than ever before. ’
Stating that regular discussions were being held with high police officers regarding crime control, he made it clear that there would be no political bias in law enforcement. He added that the wrongdoers would be brought under the ambit of legal action irrespective of the party or group they belong to.
He said that the performance of the security officials would be closely evaluated and necessary action would be taken against the officials who failed to perform their duties. He also said that a policy has been adopted to encourage the employees doing good work and to make the promotion completely performance-based.
Minister Gurung said that political pressure, access and maneuvering in course of promotions was put to an end and directives have been issued for the promotion of employees only on the basis of competence, honesty and performance.
