Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) security office has arrested two persons after seizing gold and silver ornaments being sent to the United States of America. According to the Security Office, the cargo box of the cargo complex building of Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) under manifest number AMS AP 321 was opened at around 5:30 pm on June 2 after it was found suspicious during an X-ray test.
During the investigation, a large quantity of gold and silver ornaments not mentioned in the manifest were found.
The confiscated include 22 big and 44 small Naugedi, 14 21 Gadi Naugedi, 16 moon and 20 amulets, 18÷18 single and double brooches, five big and two small brooches, 16 brooches with the Nepali flag, 23 khukuri-shaped brooches, 18 mangalsutra, 39 pearls, one ranihar and one trident.
According to the police, the equipment was being sent to the USA from Kathmandu via Apex Logistics Pvt Ltd through Bouddha-based Unique Cargo, Jhapa.
Those arrested have been identified as Yagya Raj Subedi, 46, proprietor of Apex Logistics Pvt Ltd and Ram Prasad Dahal, 34, proprietor of Unique Cargo Pvt Ltd.
According to the Tribhuvan International Airport Security Office, the arrested have been handed over to the Tribhuvan Airport Customs Office, Gauchar, for necessary legal action.
