Capacity building of journalists: Foundation chair Dahal

. KATHMANDU: Newly-appointed Chairman of Koshi Provincial Communications Academy, Deepak Dahal, has pledged to prioritize capacity building of journalists by systematizing media houses in the province as per the law.

In a conversation with Nepal News Bank after the formation of the Academy, Chairman Dahal said that the Academy would focus on institutional development, regulation and professional capacity enhancement of the media sector.

He added that the media sector would be made more systematic within the rights and responsibilities given by the Academy.

Dahal has been appointed the chairman of the Academy formed by the state government on Monday.

Sunsari-based journalist Lilaraj Bhattarai has been appointed as the provincial press registrar of the Foundation. 

Shanti Dahal (Morang), Ramesh Chandra Adhikari (Dhankuta), Mala Palungwa (Taplejung), Renu Parajuli (Udayapur), Bishnu Prasad Pokharel (Jhapa), Arjun Rajbanshi (Jhapa) and Dhruba Dhakal (Sunsari) are the members of the committee.

 

Province Press Registrar Bhattarai informed that the Academy has started the process of renewal of Radio and Television immediately after the appointment.

According to him, radios and televisions with capacity ranging from 100 watts to 1,000 watts are being renovated.

He urged the media under the jurisdiction of the state government to renew the renewal process by mid-July and said that preparations were underway to conduct the renewal process completely online from the next fiscal year.

The academy formed by the Koshi Province government under the Mass Communication Act, 2082 will be responsible for the registration, renewal, regulation, monitoring and documentation of the mass media operating in the province. The Academy is also expected to play a role in the development of independent, dignified and responsible journalism and institutional strengthening of the media sector.
