Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Karkat Sankranti is celebrated every year on the 1st of July every year with the tradition of bathing, charity, worship and throwing loot throughout the country.
On the day of Sawan Sankranti, the Sun enters the zodiac sign of Cancer from Gemini, so there is a religious belief that Dakshinayan will start from today. Uttarayan, which begins on Magh 1 and Dakshinayan that begins on July 1, is celebrated with special significance in Hinduism.
It has been a tradition to throw loot on the day of Sankranti to avoid or get rid of skin diseases that may occur while working in the mud in the fields throughout the month of Asar.
On this occasion, it is customary to worship a demon named Kandarak by using herbs with medicinal properties such as kagbhalayo, kukardino, lutejhar, pani amla, lemon, guava, pear and other medicinal plants.
The practice of knocking on the coop, blowing the conch, ringing the bell and closing the doors of the house is also prevalent in different communities. There is also a tradition of farmers who are engaged in agricultural work throughout June to gather with family and relatives on this day and have fun.
The month of Saun is considered to be the special month of worship of Lord Shiva.
Throughout this month, women wear green bangles, bangles and green and red dresses.
