Home Minister Gurung has said that lack of road is the main reason for the high price of salt in mountainous districts: Home Minister Gurung
Kathmandu. Home Minister Sudan Gurung has said that daily consumables including salt are costlier due to lack of road network in mountainous districts. Talking to media persons after the greetings exchange programme of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) on Saturday, he said that the people of the mountainous region have been facing difficulties in transporting daily essentials due to lack of road facility.
He said that people have to carry goods as there is no road in many places of the mountainous district. According to him, this problem is not only of a particular district but of mountainous districts like Mustang and Mugu.
“Salt is not easily available everywhere in the Himalayan districts. Where there are villages, there are no roads. It takes time to build the road first, but it has to be supplied,” he said.
Gurung gave an example of the price of a salt in Mustang in the past due to lack of road facilities. He said that after the construction of the road, transportation will be easy and it will help in reducing the price of daily essentials.
‘Mugu is even worse. The government will change this fate,” he said.
He claimed that the government has also allocated the budget to address the problems of the people of the mountainous region. He urged them to be patient for some time, saying that it will take time to implement the budget and see its results.
“We have not said that we can take many things up the road in 6 months. But we can take the initiative and put the budget on the road and move the work forward,” he said.
Gurung said that the government was not only focused on the issue of salt price but also to solve the problems faced by the people of the entire mountainous region. He said that the Prime Minister and the concerned ministers were working to address the problems of the people of the mountainous region.
He expressed the belief that with the expansion of road network, problems related to transportation and price rise of daily essentials of the people of mountainous region would be gradually resolved.
