We should not only listen to the burning of the body, but also the pain of burning the heart: MP Samiksha Baskota
Kathmandu. Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Samikshya Banskota has urged the government not to make the incidents of people’s suffering and death a matter of political accusation.
Speaking in the special hour of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, lawmaker Baskota expressed tribute to the people who lost their lives in different places of late and said democracy should not be limited only to the competition between ruling and opposition parties.
As the parliament was approaching, a mother recited a joke given by a mother, “There are only things that burn the body, where is the burning of the heart? The body is only burnt later, the mind is the first to burn. “
“It is the responsibility of the government, the opposition and all the people’s representatives along with the government,” she said.
“Democracy is not only a competition between two poles, it is a common practice of participation, consensus, dissent and accountability,” she said.
Accountability to the people is our common responsibility. “
The criticism of the government should be for reform and not for revenge, she said that despite being a lawmaker of the ruling party, she would warn the government when necessary and praise the good work.
Comparing the situation in the country to a vehicle stuck in reverse gear for a long time, she said it would take time to repair the structures that have been weak for years.
‘In 109 days, the government has tried to lay the foundation of good governance. It takes time and patience to strengthen the foundation of a country that has been shaken for years,” she said.
She said that instead of putting a political coating on the incidents of civilian deaths, the debate should be focused on preventing such incidents from happening in the future.
“Let’s not debate on allegations and counter-allegations, let’s stop such incidents from happening,” Baskota said. She stressed that the state and society should develop sensitivity to understand the silent pain and invisible struggle of the citizens.
