Simara. Minister for Education and Sports Sasmit Pokharel has said that the process of policy and structural reforms for higher education reforms is going on at a rapid pace. Addressing a high-level dialogue program organized by the Ministry of Education and Sports in Simara, Minister Pokharel said that along with the formulation of the new act, the work of the national curriculum framework has also been taken forward simultaneously.
Referring to the educational situation of Madhes Province, Minister Pokharel said, “In the context of education in Madhes Province being very lagging behind, the real voice of the ground will help in the reform.” We are currently actively working on policy reforms, are in the process of formulating new acts, revising the curriculum framework and are engaged in the formulation of acts of all universities. We are confident that all the suggestions received from here will be incorporated in the upcoming policies. ’
He reiterated that the programme was important to understand the ground reality by holding direct dialogue with the people’s representatives and stakeholders as the local needs would be missed by making policy from the rooms of Kathmandu.
Raising serious questions regarding the operation, expansion and specialization of universities, Minister Pokharel said, “Our attention should be paid to building specialized universities not only by opening more universities. There is no point in opening universities if everyone teaches the same old subjects even if there are 15 universities.” ’
Speaking about technical education and transformation at school level, Minister Pokharel said that the concept of world-class schools has been forwarded in Madhes as per the Prime Minister’s wish.
Discussing the confusion and problems seen in CTEVT and nursing education, he clarified the fact that nursing is not recognized in India after class 10 and expressed confidence that the problems related to its quota and affiliation in Nepal would be resolved soon through new leadership and new act.
